FREDERICK, Md. – The Arcadia University men's basketball team wrapped up the 2016-17 season Saturday afternoon at Hood, falling 97-94 to the Blazers. The Knights finish the season 9-16 overall and 4-12 in conference play, while the Blazers' season comes to a close with a 16-9 record and an 8-8 conference mark.
HOW IT HAPPENED: The hosts led for most of the early portion of the contest before sophomore
Kyle Reilly deposited a three to give Arcadia a 13-11 lead just over six and a half minutes in; a jumper form sophomore
Evan Slone a minute and a half later made the score 15-11. An 11-2 spurt in response from Hood had them in front by five midway through the first half. The Blazers led by as many as six before half's end, however a pair of threes from freshman
Emmanuel Anderson-Marrow sandwiched around a pair of Hood free throws trimmed the Knights' deficit to 46-44 heading into halftime.
A 9-0 run over the first 2:06 of the second half gave Hood control early with a 55-44 lead. The lead was swiftly cut to six as sophomore
Jordan Sanders followed a Reilly jumper with a successful and-one a minute and a half later. Trailing by 10 just over seven minutes into the half, freshman
Will Derr sparked a nine-point spurt in which the Knights held the opposition off the scoreboard for nearly four minutes. Sophomore
Brandon Thompson capped the run with a three to pull Arcadia within one at 61-61 with 11:56 to go. A three from sophomore
Phil Pierfy had the Knights within one at 92-91 with 45 ticks on the clock, however the team went 1-4 from the field down the stretch.
ARCADIA LEADERS: Thompson led the Knights with 18 points, while being joined in double figures by Pierfy (16) and Derr (11). Derr pulled in a team-high six rebounds, while Scott dished out a team-best seven assists.
HOOD LEADERS: Scott Bolen led all scorers with 39 points and matched a game-high with seven rebounds. Tanner Ruths (13), Luke Casey (12) and Trevor Magnuski (10) also reached double figures. Magnuski matched the game-high with seven rebounds.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS: The Knights shot 50.8% (32-63) from the floor, including 11-27 (40.7%) from distance, while going 19-25 (76%) at the charity stripe. The Blazers finished the game 21-58 (53.4%) from the field, including 12-26 (46.2%) from distance, while going 23-35 (65.7%) at the free throw line.
