GLENSIDE, Pa. – A balanced attack that featured seven different goal scorers led the Arcadia University women's lacrosse team to a 16-2 victory over visiting Neumann University Wednesday evening at Jean Lenox West Field. It was the first game of the season for both programs.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Freshman
Julia Imbert opened the scoring just 48 seconds into the game with the first goal of her collegiate career, starting an 11-0 Arcadia run that extended until 1:47 into the second half when Kaitlyn Conrad scored the first goal of the game for Neumann. Imbert later setup the eventual game-winning goal from junior
Allegra Benites, which put the Knights up 3-0 just 2:12 into the game.
ARCADIA LEADERS: Imbert finished the game with three goals and two assists for a game-high five points, and was one of two Knights to outscore Neumann as a whole. Freshman
Shannon Ryan tallied three goals and one assist with four draw controls, while classmate
Victoria Mollitor also finished with three goals in their collegiate debuts. Senior
Erin Misner (one goal, one assist), Benites (two goals, two assists) and fellow juniors
Marie Brockman (two goals) and
Nicole Hutson (two goals, one assist) also got into the scoring act for Arcadia.
NEUMANN LEADERS: Conrad accounted both of Neumann's goals, the second of which made it 15-2 with 7:22 left in the game. Brittany Cassidy and Gabby Curry picked up three groundballs each.
IN GOAL: Junior
Liz Stierle picked up the win in goal for the Knights after totaling six saves with just two goals allowed for Arcadia. Curry took the loss in goal for Neumann after totaling seven saves while allowing 11 goals in the first half, while Becca Wallace allowed five goals with four stops in the second half.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS: Arcadia outshot Neumann 36-12 in the game and had a 16-3 advantage on the draw while successfully clearing the ball on 13 of 18 attempts. Neumann held a 16-13 edge in groundballs. Arcadia was 4 for 8 on free position shots, while Neumann was 0 for 5.
