NEW YORK – The Arcadia University men's volleyball team split a pair of matches in today's tri-match at Hunter College, registering a 3-0 win over St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn before falling to the host Hawks 3-0.
FOR THE RECORD: Arcadia's record now stands at 4-3 this season after going 1-1 in today's action. The Bears fell to 0-7 following their loss to the Scarlet and Grey, while Hunter improved to 7-2 with its wins over the Knights and St. Joe's.
Arcadia 3, St. Joseph's-Brooklyn 0 (25-7, 25-9, 25-9)
HOW IT HAPPENED: The Knights dominated their opening match of the day, outscoring the Bears 61-7 while hitting 34 percent while holding St. Joseph's just five kills and seven attack errors. Arcadia's 12 attack errors accounted for nearly half of the Bears' 25 total points in the match. The Knights totaled a season-high 25 service aces in the win.
ARCADIA LEADERS: Nine different players scored at least one kill in the match, led by an eight-kill performance for freshman
Robie Moctezuma, who hit .400 while totaling a match-high 10 service aces. Classmate
Bryce Galloway hit .417 with seven kills, while sophomore
Alvyn Abraham had 19 assists, seven digs, three aces and two kills.
ST. JOSEPH'S LEADERS: Alec Smalley had two kills and six digs to lead the Bears. Three other players had one kill each.
Hunter 3, Arcadia 0 (16-25, 13-25, 16-25)
HOW IT HAPPENED: The Knights struggled to find their offensive rhythm in their second match of the day as they hit just five percent with 22 kills and 18 attack errors. The Hawks outscored Arcadia 42-29 while hitting 33 percent as a team.
The Knights were down three, 18-15, in the opener before Hunter went on a 7-1 run to close the set with a 25-16 win. That momentum carried over to the second, where the Hawks opened with a 6-0 run before gradually pulling away for the 25-13 win. A series of small runs put Hunter in front 18-9 on its way to a 25-16 win in the final set.
ARCADIA LEADERS: Freshman
Edwin Waters Jr. led the Knights with six kills and three digs, while freshman
Jason Manley totaled five kills and two digs. Abraham totaled 20 assists with seven digs.
HUNTER LEADERS: Brandon Kohler hit .636 with eight kills and one error on 11 attempts to lead the Hawks, while Ben Crusinberry hit .467 with eight kills and one error on 15 attempts. Nicolas Sanchez registered 29 assists with seven digs.
