BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Arcadia University baseball team, which is receiving votes in this week's American Baseball Coaches Association/Collegiate Baseball Poll, dropped a 7-3 non-conference decision at Moravian College Thursday.
FOR THE RECORD: The Greyhounds improved to 4-12 for the season with their second straight win, while the Knights dropped to 13-6 with their third straight loss.
HOW IT HAPPENEED: Moravian jumped out to an early 4-0 lead after scoring a pair of runs in each of the first two innings, with Carmine Palummo driving in Steve Lazicki with what proved to be the game-winning run with an RBI-single to center. Arcadia got two runs back in the top of the third on sacrifice flies from sophomores
Bryan Gillen and
Luke Hohenstein that plated freshman
Zak Thomas and fellow sophomore
Drew Coisson. The Knights cut their deficit to 4-3 the next inning as junior
Nick Cardace went home on freshman
Tyler Wisnewski's double down the left field line.
That was as close as Arcadia could get the rest of the way as the Greyhounds tacked on two runs in the bottom of the fifth and one more in the seventh for the 7-3 final.
ON THE HILL: Moravian used a total of eight pitchers in the game; they combined to allow three runs on eight hits with six strikeouts. Senior
Mickey Ferrence (0-1) took the loss for Arcadia after allowing four runs over 1.1 innings in his first start of the season.
ARCADIA AT BAT: Hohenstein was 2 for 3 with an RBI, while Cardace and Coisson were 1 for 3 with a run scored. Wisnewski was 1 for 4 with an RBI.
MORAVIAN AT BAT: Tim Heard and Austin Markowski were both 3 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored, while Evan Kulig went 1 for 4 with two RBI and a run scored.
