Baseball Scores Early and Often in 23-3 Rout at Eastern

ST. DAVIDS, Pa. – The Arcadia University baseball team pounded out 22 hits, including three homers, as it cruised to a 23-3 non-conference victory at Eastern University Wednesday.
 
FOR THE RECORD: The Knights improved to 16-7 with their third victory in four tries, while the Eagles fell to 7-10 with their second straight loss.

HOW IT HAPPENED: The Knights got out in front on senior Jordan Draude's two-run opposite field homerun in the top of the first and scored what proved to be the game-winning run on sophomore Luke Hohenstein's RBI-single that plated junior Drew Coisson from second. The bases were loaded for junior Nick Cardace two batters later, and he blew the game open after driving the second pitch he faced over the center field fence for a grand slam homerun, and freshman Dylan Towey capped the scoring when he crossed the plate on sophomore Sean Carew's sacrifice fly in the eight.
 
ON THE HILL: Not to be overlooked was a strong performance from sophomore Joel Bartoni, who surrendered just one hit while striking out four batters over his five innings of work as hi record improved to 3-0 this season. Grant Fisher(0-2) took the loss after allowing 12 runs on 11 hits and three walks in four innings.
 
ARCDIA AT BAT: Draude went 3 for 3 with two long balls, five RBI and three runs scored, while Towey went 5 for 6 with two doubles, four runs scored and another driven in. Sophomore Nick Ponente finished the day 4 for 5 with three runs scored. Carew was 1 for 1 with a run scored and three RBI, while Cardace finished 1 for 4 with a grand slam and five RBI. Hohenstein finished 1 for 3 with a walk, two runs scored and two more driven in, while freshmen Teddy Gonzalez and Robert Lichtenberger were both 1 for 2 with two RBI and a run scored.
 
DRAUDE CLIMBING RECORD LISTS: Draude is now has six homeruns for the season, tying him for second on the program record list. He is two back of Bart Hotchkin's program-record eight homers in 2001. His 12 career homers are fourth-most in program history. Hotchkin also holds the career record with 15.
 
EASTERN AT BAT: The Eagles totaled just six hits in the game, and all three of their runs were unearned. Brady DiGiacomo went 1 for 5 with an RBI-double and a run scored. Timmy Gordon was 2 for 4 at the dish.
