No. 6 Women’s Lacrosse Upsets No. 3 Drew to Advance to ECAC Semifinals, 13-9

MADISON, N.J. – The sixth-seeded Arcadia University women's lacrosse team closed its Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) First Round match at third-seeded Drew with a 4-1 run to upset the Rangers by a final count of 13-9 Wednesday night. The Knights will be in the ECAC semifinals for the second time in as many appearances.
 
FOR THE RECORD: Arcadia improved to 9-8 for the season with the victory, while Drew ends its season at 11-8.
 
UP NEXT: The Knights will face second-seeded Misericordia (13-4) in the ECAC semifinals Saturday, which will be hosted at top-seeded Stockton University at 4:30 p.m. The Cougars advanced after recording a 12-10 win over seventh-seeded Moravian, and were 10-7 winners over Arcadia back on March 25 in Dallas.
 
ARCADIA IN THE ECAC TOURNAMENT: This marks the second straight win for the Knights over the Rangers in the opening round of the ECAC tournament; then No. 4 Arcadia was a 14-11 winner over then No. 5 Drew in 2015. Arcadia then fell to then No. 2 Stevens Tech in the 2015 ECAC semifinals.
 
IN GOAL: Junior Liz Stierle improved her record to 9-5 this season after totaling 15 saves in goal for the Knights. Gianna Minogue had just seven saves in taking the loss for the Rangers.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED: Theresa Shafron opened the scoring just under a minute into the game to give Drew its only lead of the evening. Senior Erin Misner answered a minute and a half later to tie the game before junior Allegra Benites found the back of the net twice in the span of a minute to put Arcadia out in front for good. The Knights later scored four straight to go up 8-3, with Misner capping the run with 7:13 remaining in the period, before Allie DiDario and Nicole Kinney scored for Drew to cut Arcadia's lead to 8-5 at the half.
 
DiDario started and ended a three-goal second half run the made it a 9-8 contest just over 10 minutes into the second half, but that was as close as the Rangers would get the rest of the way. Freshman Shannon Ryan started a four-goal surge for the Knights that put them up 13-8 following Misner's team-leading 40th goal of the year with 9:42 remaining in the game. Drew's only tally in the closing minutes came from Anna Fiorini with 1:35 left on the clock.
 
ARCADIA LEADERS: Misner scored a game-high five goals for the Knights; her fourth goal of the game was the 150th of her collegiate career. Benites had a game-high six points after scoring four goals and handing out two assists, while classmate Nicole Hutson had two goals, three caused turnovers, two draw controls and two ground balls. Freshman Julia Imbert and Ryan had one goal and one assist each.
 
DREW LEADERS: Kinney scored three goals with one assist, three draw controls and two ground balls to lead the Rangers. DiDario finished with three goals, four draw controls, four ground balls and two caused turnovers.
