Stierle’s First Career Goal Highlight’s Field Hockey’s 3-0 Win over William Paterson

GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Arcadia University field hockey team got back in the win column Wednesday night, shutting out William Paterson 3-0 on Jean Lenox West Field.

FOR THE RECORD: The Knights improved to 5-3 on the year, while the Pioneers fell to 2-5.

HOW IT HAPPENED: The Scarlet and Grey peppered William Paterson with shots early and often. Freshman Lauren Dougherty rifled a pair of shots in quick succession less than five minutes in with the first being blocked and the second denied by a defensive save. Fast forward to the 28th minute, the frosh put two more shots on cage with the second tipping off the keeper and into the back of the net.

The 1-0 lead stood through halftime, until senior Liz Stierle finished on a pass from sophomore Isabelle Houser for her first collegiate goal just over a minute and a half into the second half. Houser got on the board herself in the 57th minute on a diving effort netting a pass from junior Lindsay Bechtold in front of the cage.

IN GOAL: Freshman Maya Stern (5-3) picked up the shutout by making three saves. William Paterson's Mallory Rickerhauser (2-4) allowed three goals and made seven saves in the loss.
