First Ever Win Against Widener Helps Men’s Swimming Set Single Season Win Record

CHESTER, Pa. – For the first time in program history, the Arcadia men's swimming team picked up a victory over the Widener Pride, 168-94. The win also set the single season win record with nine.
 
FOR THE RECORD:
  • The Scarlet and Grey sit at 9-1 on the season.
  • Widener drops to 6-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Senior Grant Fisher was one of two Knights to earn 22 points against Widener. The Ardmore, Pa. native claimed two first-place finishes (1,000-yard freestyle – 10:11.57, 500-yard freestyle – 4:58.11) and one second place nod (200-yard freestyle – 1:46.83). Fisher also aided the first-place 400-yard freestyle medley squad in clocking a 3:21.54.
  • Sophomore T.J. Dalton was the other 22-point scorer on the day for Arcadia. The East Stroudsburg, Pa. native picked up first-place points in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:11.68) and the 200-yard IM (2:01.86), while also claiming second in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:12.18). Dalton aided the first place 400-yard freestyle medley squad pick up first place points.
  • Adding another 16 points for the Knights was sophomore Tristan Highet. Highet clocked a first (100-yard backstroke – 55.59), second (50-yard freestyle – 21.95) and a third-place finish (100-yard freestyle – 49.96), while also assisting the first place 200-yard medley relay team in clocking in at 1:40.59.
  • Also contributing 16 points in Arcadia's win was junior Andrew Givone. Givone picked up first-place points in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:01.63), second-place earnings in the 200-yard IM (2:02.45) and a third-place nod in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:16.66). The Stillwater, N.J. native helped claim a first-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay.
  • Junior Michael Melissen picked up an additional 15 points for the Knights as he took a first-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke (2:03.17) and two third-place nods (200-yard butterfly – 2:06.61, 500-yard freestyle – 5:03.43). The Collegeville, Pa. native also helped the first-place 200-yard medley relay squad take home points.
  • Picking up 13 points was senior Jacob Schellinger, who took home a first-place time in the 200-yard butterfly (2:03.03) and a second-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly (54.53). Schellinger also aided the first-place 200-yard medley relay team in claiming points.
  • Sophomore Mark Preedy picked up 11 points for the Scarlet and Grey as he claimed two second (100-yard breaststroke – 1:01.90, 100-yard freestyle – 49.87) and one third-place nod (200-yard IM – 2:07.78). Preedy also helped earn first-place points on the 400-yard freestyle relay crew.
  • Freshman Justin Reed contributed seven points in the Knights win, claiming a second-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke (57.38) and a third-place nod in the 100-yard butterfly (55.27). Reed also helped in earn third-place points for the 200-yard medley relay team.
  • Junior A.J. Cawley picked up two fourth place finishes (50-yard freestyle – 23.62, 100-yard freestyle – 51.84) and a fifth-place nod (200-yard freestyle) to claim five points on the day. Cawley also aided the first place 400-yard freestyle relay team earn points.
  • Also chipping in five points was sophomore Zach Bondurant. Bondurant placed third in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:38.90) and fourth in the 200-yard backstroke (2:14.08). The Fairhope, Ala. native was also a member of the squad taking third-place points in the 200-yard medley relay.
  • Sophomore Austin Lauer contributed four points to the Knights total. Lauer took two fourth place finishes, one in the 200-yard butterfly (2:06.88) and one in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:24.42). He also assisted in the claiming third place points with junior Brian Lockhart and sophomores Reed French and Jack Shoplock in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
  • Also claiming four points was senior Mike Gallagher. Gallagher took a third-place nod in the 200-yard backstroke (2:13.61) and a fifth-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle (23.99). The Valley Lee, Md. native also aided the third place 200-yard medley relay team to earn points.
  • Rounding out the scoring efforts for the Knights was junior Bill Rodgers. Rodgers took two fifth-place finishes (100-yard backstroke – 1:02.06, 200-yard backstroke – 2:14.25) to claim two points. He also was a member of the third place 200-yard medley relay squad.
NOTES:
  • The Knights have won three-straight dual meets.
UP NEXT:
The Knights will take on Div. I opponent La Salle University on Friday, as the Scarlet and Grey travel to Philadelphia. Action will get underway at 6 p.m.
