Pierfy’s Game High 25 Points Leads Men's Basketball Past Stevenson, 79-75

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Junior Phil Pierfy led all scorers with 25 points as the Arcadia men's basketball team took down conference foe Stevenson, 79-75.
 
FOR THE RECORD:
  • The Knights move to 10-8 on the season, with a conference mark of 5-4.
  • Stevenson drops to 10-8 and 2-7 in MAC Commonwealth play.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The first 10 minutes of the game was back-and-forth with both teams claiming leads, before the Knights took off on a 20-8 run over a 9:09 span to gain a sizable lead at nine. During the span, sophomore Steve Pendleton led the charge with six points, while juniors Jon Lott and Evan Slone each contributed four. The Mustangs would have a small run before the end of the frame, however Arcadia took a five-point lead into the break, 36-31.
  • Stevenson was hot out of the gate to start the final half, overtaking the Knights and developing a nine-point lead with 15:04 left. The Scarlet and Grey wouldn't back down, firing off a 14-4 run over a 4:13 span to overhaul the Mustangs and retake control, 54-53. Junior Josh Scott and Slone each dropped five points on the run.
  • The Mustangs again fought back to retake the lead with 6:00 left in regulation, however Arcadia would quickly respond. Over the final minutes, the Knights capped a 17-11 run with six straight free throws to seal the game.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
  • Joining Pierfy in double figures were Slone (15), Scott (10) and Lott (10).
  • As a team, Arcadia out-rebounded Stevenson, 35-29, including 15-8 on the offensive side.
  • The Knights forced 21 Mustang turnovers, capitalizing and converting them into 19 points.
  • The Scarlet and Grey dominated the paint, outscoring Stevenson, 40-22.
GAME NOTES:
  • Since returning to the lineup after the Messiah game (12/6), Pierfy has scored double figures in every game (10). In fact, the Easton, Pa. native has only been held to a single digit output once this season. Pierfy leads the Knights in scoring with 17.2 points per game.
  • The Knights have won two straight games and three straight road conference games.
