Knights Sweep Alvernia on Senior Night

GLENSIDE, Pa. -- Arcadia's women's volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 win over Alvernia on Wednesday night inside Alumni Gymnasium.

Playing on senior night, the Knights (18-8, 6-1 MACC) dispatched the Golden Wolves (4-14, 0-6) 25-17, 25-14, 25-14. All five seniors, Becca Campf, Bri Cox, Lizzie Joseph, Kayla Resh and Katie Wilson started in their final regular season home game.

The first set was the most tightly contested. An early 9-3 lead for the Knights was whittled away to just one (17-16) by the Golden Wolves. However, two straight kills from Joseph and a service ace from Cox gave the Knights a 20-16 lead. One more point for Alvernia was followed by five straight points from AU to close out the set, including two more kills from Joseph.

In the second set, the Knights seized control with a 7-2 burst to turn a 7-6 lead into a 14-8 advantage. The lead ballooned to 19-9 following a service ace from Julia Paliwodzinski. Shannon Ryan recorded kills for four of AU's final five points and a 2-0 lead.

Kaylee Bumpus opened the third set with seven straight points from the service line to give Arcadia a 7-0 lead. Alvernia pulled to within 9-7, but got no closer the rest of the set.

Arcadia hit .299 as a team, while limiting Alvernia to a -.041 hitting percentage. The Knights also double up Alvernia in service aces (8-4) and had nearly as many kills in the second set alone (15) as the Golden Wolves had all night (18).

Joseph led all players with 12 kills and hit .500. Ryan had six kills and hit .556, while Campf and Cox added five and four kills, respectively. Paliwodzinski handed out 24 assists with a pair of service aces, while Resh and Campf led the squad with nine and eight dis, respectively.

The Knights hit to road for a trio of matches at Carnegie Mellon beginning Friday night at 7 p.m.
