GLENSIDE, Pa. – Head coach
Rick Brownell picked up his 200th win at Arcadia as the No 2. seed Arcadia women's soccer team won 3-0 over No. 3 seed Albright in the MAC Commonwealth Semifinals on Wednesday evening at Jean Lenox West Field and Delran Pavilion.
With the victory, the Knights improve to 12-4-3 on the season, and return to the MAC Commonwealth Championship game. Albright wraps up its season at 11-4-2
After controlling much of the play in the first half,
Veronica Pontis gave the Knights the lead when she knocked in a header on a free kick from
Karlie Flowers, making the score 1-0 in the 43rd minute. Arcadia took its one-goal advantage into halftime. The Knights took eight shots and did not concede any in the first half.
Jules Oswald gave the Knights a two-goal cushion in the 56th minute. Following an AU corner kick, Pontis fed a ball to Oswald through a scrum in the six, and Oswald poked it in for a 2-0 lead.
The Knights capped the scoring in the 76th minute when
Megan Mannato sent a cross into the box from the right side that
Riley Nyhus got on the end of and beat Alexis Tunney, increasing the Knights' lead to 3-0.
IN GOAL: Brianna Williams played all 90:00 for the Knights, and did not have to make a save in the contest. Alexis Tunney played 81:16 for the Lions, making six saves. Payton Bogatch played the final 8:44 for Albright and did not face a shot.
BY THE NUMBERS: The Knights advance to the MAC Commonwealth title game for the fourth straight season … The Knights out shot the Lions, 14-1, and allowed the fewest shots to an opponent this season … Arcadia did now allow a shot on goal in the contest, making this the fourth time this season the Knights have held an opponent without a shot on goal …
Stephanie Maggio paced the Knights with three shots, and two shots on goal ... for Pontis, it marked the first time in her career that she posted both a goal and an assist in the same game.
UP NEXT: The Knights will face No. 1 seed Messiah in the MAC Commonwealth Championship game on Saturday. A start time for the contest has not been determined.
