Men's Basketball Advances to MAC Commonwealth Championship Despite Loss to Hood

GLENSIDE, Pa. – The fifth-seeded Arcadia men's basketball team will head to #4 Messiah Monday night for the first round of the MAC Commonwealth Championship, despite a 91-85 loss to Hood Saturday.
 
FOR THE RECORD:
  • The Knights finish the regular season 14-11, with a MAC Commonwealth mark of 8-8.
  • Hood ends its season at 10-15 and 6-10 in the conference.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Knights started the game with an 8-3 run over a 3:13 span to hold a five-point lead, 8-3. Junior Evan Slone recorded six points on the run. The visiting Blazers would take a 48-32 lead into the break.
  • Arcadia opened the second half continuing a run from the first frame, as it registered a 14-0 rally over a 4:30 span to cut the deficit to nine, 48-39. Hood quickly responded taking a run of its own to push its lead to 23.
  • Over the final 4:52 of the game, the Scarlet and Grey had a 27-10 run, seeing 12 points from junior Josh Scott. The team's comeback was too late, as the Blazers finished in front.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Four scorers registered double digits for the Knights, led by Scott with 17 points. Joining Scott was freshman Da'Kquan Davis (15 points), junior Phil Pierfy (14 points), and Slone (12 points).
  • Pierfy recorded the double-double as he corralled 10 rebounds on the night.
  • As a team, the Knights outworked Hood on the glass, 39-37, including 16-10 on the offensive end. The offensive rebound difference led to 18 second chance points.
  • Arcadia forced 17 turnovers on the afternoon, resulting in 31 points.
  • Scott (7 rebounds) and Davis (8 rebounds) neared double-doubles. 
GAME NOTES:
  • The Knights recognized senior Brandon Thompson before the game as it was senior day. In his three years dawning the Scarlet and Grey, Thompson has established himself on the court as a fierce competitor. Playing in 70 games, starting 49, the Philadelphia, Pa. native has registered 654 points, shooting 40.6% from the floor, 36% from three-point range, and 83.8% from the free throw line. Thompson has also corralled 162 rebounds and 97 assists for the Knights.

  • The Knights head to Messiah Monday night for the first round of the MAC Commonwealth Championship. The game is set to tip at 7 p.m.
