Balanced Attack Leads Men's Basketball to a Win over Lebanon Valley, 69-60

GLENSIDE, Pa. – Senior Brandon Thompson (14 points) and junior Phil Pierfy (10 points) led the Arcadia men's basketball team to a victory Wednesday night over Lebanon Valley, 69-60. In total, nine different Knights registered points.

FOR THE RECORD:
  • The Knights advanced to 13-9 on the year and 8-5 in the MAC Commonwealth.
  • Lebanon Valley dropped to 14-9, with an 8-6 conference mark.
COACH SAYS:
  • Tonight was a very ugly game but our guys stayed the course and gutted out a big win," said head men's basketball coach Justin Scott. "I thought our defense was sensational. We really took the challenge and limited their best offensive player. I also loved how our bench played. We had multiple players off the bench with significant contributions. I really like how our team has grown and improved over the last month."
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • After the Dutchmen took an early five-point lead, the Scarlet and Grey dashed out to a 7-2 run to cut the difference to two with 10:40 remaining. The run spanned 3:40 seeing three points from junior Jordan Sanders and a pair from Pierfy and classmate Evan Slone.
  • The visitors built its lead to five points, then the Knights took an 11-2 run over the final 6:00 of the first half, to take their first lead of the night, 25-22. Over the run, junior Jason Rivera deposited six-straight points, while sophomore Emmanuel Anderson-Marrow and Pierfy each added two.
  • The Dutchmen battled back to start the second half to recapture the lead, 33-29, with 16:33 on the clock. Arcadia quickly responded with a 12-0 run, spanning 3:35 to take a six-point lead. Slone led the run with four points, while Anderson-Marrow and Thompson drained three apiece.
  • Lebanon Valley responded, cutting the deficit to one, before the Knights added a 7-0 run to extend their lead, 46-38.
  • After a back-and-fourth 6:30 and four lead changes, the Knights finished the final 44 seconds on an 8-2 run to seal the victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Adding to the scoring output was junior Josh Scott with nine points and classmates Sanders, Slone, and Rivera with eight.
  • As a team, the Knights shot 23-of-55 from the floor (41.8%).
  • On the glass, Arcadia saw a seven-rebound effort from Pierfy and Scott.
  • Scott also dished out six assists, for the team's 17 on the night. 
GAME NOTES:
  • The victory seals the season sweep over Lebanon Valley after the Knights took the first meeting, 92-84 (1/10).
  • Arcadia holds a substantial tiebreaker over the Dutchmen with the two head-to-head wins.
  • The Knights have won two straight games and five of their last six.
UP NEXT:
  • The Knights head to Alvernia on Saturday looking to avenge an early season loss and extend their win streak to three. Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. from Reading.
