AMBLER, Pa. – The Arcadia baseball team bested Albright, 16-10, Friday in the first game of a three game set. Junior
Sean Carew and freshman
Matt Ernst each recorded four base hits to lead an offense that totaled 23 base knocks for the game.
FOR THE RECORD:
- The Scarlet and Grey improved to 17-8 on the year and 8-3 against MAC Commonwealth foe.
- The Lions fell to 10-12 overall, with a 4-9 conference mark.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Both teams' bats were working early, combining for nine runs in the first inning. Carew and freshman Brett Moyer each plated a run with RBI singles before sophomore Tyler Wisnewski plated sophomore Phil Pierfy with a sac fly to center. Ernst finished the inning's scoring with a two-run single to center field.
- Albright took a one-run lead in the second, before the Knights tallied the next five runs between the third and fourth innings. Senior Nick Cardace led off the third with a home run to right center, followed by a leadoff home run to center in the fourth from Carew. Two batters' after Carew's long ball, Cardace plated Pierfy with a single, before eventually scoring himself on a Moyer single through the right side.
- With the Knights holding a 10-8 lead heading to the bottom of the sixth, junior Luke Hohenstein plated Ernst and junior Bryan Gillen with a single through the left side, before scoring on an errant throw by the pitcher on a pickoff attempt.
- Arcadia's final three runs came on a two-run double by Ernst in the seventh and a sac fly by Carew in the eighth.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Ernst went 4-for-4 on the day, with a double, walk, four RBIs, a run scored and a stolen base.
- Carew had a 4-for-5 outing, with two doubles, a home run, three RBIs and two runs scored.
- Hohenstein (3-for-6), Cardace (3-for-6), and Moyer (2-for-5) all drove in two runs.
- Junior Bryan Gillen swiped two bases.
- Wisnewski went 3-for-4 and scored twice.
ON THE HILL:
- Junior Joel Bartoni (4-1) fanned two in five innings. Senior Mike Boulanger tossed three scoreless innings and struck out one. Sophomore Mitch Blake tossed the ninth, allowing one hit.
- Shaun O'Reilly (2-3) allowed nine runs on 12 hits with three walks over three innings. Will Tokarski was tagged for six runs (five earned) on eight hits in 3.2 innings. Ryan Kalinich allowed one run in 1.1 innings.
