DANBURY, Conn. – The Arcadia women's lacrosse team earned a bid for the 2018 ECAC Women's Lacrosse Division III Championship and will be the number one seed in pod one, with its first game at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at No. 4 Marywood.
This marks the third time in program history that the team has earned a bid to the tournament (2015, 2017).
The two teams met in the Knights' third game of the season, with the Pacers taking the overtime victory, 10-9. Despite the loss, the Knights have improved as a team.
On the season, both Marywood and Arcadia has face six of the same opponents. Both schools picked up wins over Alvernia, Immaculata, and Neumann, while both fell to Cabrini. A big difference however, is the Knights beat Misericordia and Lycoming, while the Pacers lost to both of those teams.
On the season, Arcadia posted a 10-8 record overall, finishing as the No. 4 seed in the MAC Commonwealth Championship Tournament, returning to the conference tournament for the first time since 2015.
Under first year head coach,
Sam Hosford, the Knights have had a record season, returning to double digit wins for the first time since 2015. As a program, the Scarlet and Grey also had its first ever win over Stevenson, and first win over Alvernia since 2009.
The team bolstered and impressive offensive outburst, including the MAC Commonwealth Player of the Year in sophomore
Shannon Ryan.
On the season, Ryan was an absolute force on the offensive end. Scoring 97 points, with 55 goals and 42 assists, she led the team in both categories, ranking second in the conference in assists, points and draw controls. The East Greenbush, N.Y. native won 127 draw controls, setting the single season record, while also corralling 24 ground balls and forcing 15 turnovers. Ryan was a three-time MAC Commonwealth Offensive Player of the Week recipient, while starting all 18 games.
The Knights add four other players, scoring 30+ points on the season, in seniors
Nicole Hutson and
Allegra Benites, and sophomores
Jess Kaye and
Julia Imbert. Hutson received All-MAC Commonwealth Honorable Mention recognition.
On the defensive side of things, the Scarlet and Grey saw sophomore Kirstern Pedicone receive Honorable Mention All-MAC Commonwealth, as a defensive leader on the team.
In the cage, sophomore
Molly Naylor produced a 7-6 record, making 95 saves in her 15 games played.
Overall, the Knights are 2-1 over Marywood and 1-0 in Scranton.
