Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Ravens Edge Knights, 89-86

ROSEMONT, Pa. -- The Arcadia men's basketball team saw its 12-game win streak come to an end as Rosemont held off the Knights 89-86 on Monday night.

The Knights now stand at 15-3 on the season, while the Ravens improved to 7-11 overall. Arcadia was in search of its 13th straight win, having already set a school record with 12 consecutive victories dating back to Nov. 28.

Da'Kquan Davis led the Knights with 21 points and added five rebounds, four steals and three assists. Josh Scott scored 16 points on 6 of 10 shooting and grabbed five boards, while Evan Slone (14), Phil Pierfy (13) and Steve Pendleton (10) reached double figures in scoring as well. Slone and Pierfy totaled eight and six rebounds, respectively, and Pendleton came up with four blocked shots.

Arcadia trailed by as many as nine points (58-49) in the second half before methodically chipping away at the Ravens' lead over the next 10+ minutes. A 7-0 run capped by a Slone layup pulled the Knights to within 58-56 with 13:19 to play, and a jumper by Scott knotted the game at 65-65 with 8:16 to play.

Slone gave AU its first lead of the second half (69-67) at the 6:52 mark, scoring on a layup inside, and after the Ravens quickly answered to tie the game at 69-69, Scott drilled a trey for a three-point lead on the ensuing possession. Jacob Simonson answered Scott's long-range shot with one of his own to once again bring Rosemont even at 72-72 with 5:54 left.

Six straight points by the Knights pushed their lead to 78-72 with 3:57 showing, but an AU turnover led to an intentional foul, giving the Ravens two shots and the ball with 3:33 to play. Nick Gemmel knocked down both shots from the charity stripe and Simonson scored in the paint on the ensuing possession, allowing Rosemont to pull within 78-76.

The Ravens regained the lead 81-80 with 2:18 to play on a jumper by Simonson, but two Davis answered with a pair of free throws with 1:29 remaining as the lead yo-yoed back to AU, 82-81.

Trailing by one (84-83) with under minute to play, the Keith Blassingale gave Rosemont the lead for good with a jumper from the right baseline. At the other end, a layup attempt from Davis was halfway down before spinning out and Rosemont's Perry Belcher secured the rebound and was fouled. He knocked down both free throws for an 87-84 lead with 23 ticks left.

An empty possession by the Scarlet & Grey put the Ravens back on the line, where Simonson split a pair. A quick layup by Davis made it a two-point game (88-86) with seven seconds left. The Ravens split a pair once more for an 89-86 lead, and after securing the rebound and racing up court, Davis got a decent look from roughly 25 feet but couldn't get the tying three to fall.

The Knights shot 30 of 63 (.476) from the floor, but were just 64.3 percent (18-28) at the line. Rosemont shot 52.7 percent (29-55) on the night, and was 20 of 27 (.741) from the free-throw line. Arcadia held a 41-28 advantage on the glass and assisted on 15 of its 30 made buckets.

Simonson led all scorers with 27 points on 10 of 18 shooting. He was 5 of 10 from long range and added three assists. Belcher scored 14 points, hitting all five of his field goal attempts, and Blassingale added 12 points. Marlon Sharpton chipped in seven points, seven rebounds and four assists.

The Knights return to action on Saturday at Stevenson beginning at 3 p.m.
