Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Stevenson Too Much For Knights, 78-63

OWINGS MILLS, Md. -- The Arcadia women's basketball team fell at Stevenson, 78-63, on Saturday afternoon.

The Knights are now 7-12 on the season and 4-6 in the MAC Commonwealth, while Stevenson stands at 10-9 overall and 5-5 in the league.

The Knights got 32 points from their bench, including a season-high 15 from Taylor Fritz, and a career-high 11 points from Holly Daveski, but couldn't overcome a huge free throw disparity in the loss. Stevenson was 17 of 22 (.773) from the charity stripe, while AU shot just 10 free throws, making eight (.800).

Arcadia turned an early 9-3 deficit into a 12-11 lead with 2:47 left in the opening quarter on the strength of a 9-2 run capped by a Daveski layup. Sydney Cyr jumpstarted the run with a triple and Camille Menns followed with a short jumper to pull AU within 9-8 by the 4:47 mark. Jamie Manzo added a jumper at 3:53 as the Knights took a 10-9 lead. The lead reached 16-13 on a Fritz layup with just over a minute remaining, but the Mustangs scored the last four points of the period for a 17-16 lead after one.

In the second quarter, the Knights fell behind by five (27-22) before using an 8-2 run, punctuated by a Menns putback, for a 30-29 lead with 5:59 on the clock. Arcadia's lead stood at 34-33, but the Mustangs once again closed the period strong, outscoring AU 10-2 to close the half and take a 43-36 lead to the locker room.

Stevenson then opened the second half on a 12-0 burst to take the upper hand in what had been a back-and-forth contest to that point. The Knights pulled to within 55-43 on a Taylor Dunn layup with 2:28 to play, but that would be as close as AU would get in the quarter.

Twice the Knights managed to cut their deficit to single digits in the fourth quarter, the last time coming on a Daveski layup with 1:55 to play that made it 72-63 in favor of the home team, but Stevenson scored the game's final six points to snuff out any rally.

The Knights shot 44.6 percent (25-56) as a team and held a 33-30 edge on the glass. Stevenson was 27 of 57 ( .474) from the floor, including 7 of 12 (.583) from beyond the arc, and won the turnover battle 24-19.

Julia Makowski added 15 points for the Knights. For the freshman, it was her 14th game in double figures this season. Menns finished with six points and a team-high eight rebounds, and Dunn had five points, six assists and three steals. Asya Alba had five rebounds, four assist and three steals.

Jonyae Curry led all players with 20 points on 6 of 9 shooting, and she added eight rebounds. Hannah Crist scored 16 points to go with six assists, five rebound and four steals.

The Knights are back in action on Wednesday when they host Albright at 6 p.m.
