Women's Basketball Falls Short in Overtime Loss at Rutgers-Newark

NEWARK, NJ - The Arcadia University women's basketball team's fourth quarter comeback fell short as they lost to Rutgers-Newark, 68-63, in overtime on Friday night. Taylor Dunn led the Knights for the second consecutive game with 20 points, while Julia Makowski and Holly Daveski tallied 14 and 13 points, respectively. Sydney Cyr was the Knights fourth double-digit scorer with 10 points in 35 minutes off the bench.

After falling behind in the third quarter, the Knights battled back and put themselves in position to close out the game. With the game knotted at 57-57, Arcadia earned two free throws with two seconds left, but couldn't connect on either attempt.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Dunn started off the game hot with 10 points and two three-pointers in the opening quarter. Midway through the quarter, the senior guard provided Arcadia with their first lead of the game with a deep ball, which gave the Knights a 10-7 advantage. Moments later, Cyr provided the Knights with their biggest lead of the quarter after connecting on an and-one layup to take a 17-12 lead. Rutgers would tally five unanswered to tie the game, before Dunn drained a jumper with 54-seconds remaining to end the opening stanza with the lead.

- The Knights opened the second quarter on a 10-4 run to take their biggest lead of the night at eight points. However, the Scarlet Raiders responded quickly with an 8-0 rally to help capture momentum. With 43-seconds remaining in the half, Makowski broke the tie with a layup, while Cyr added two foul shots to go up by four points. Rutgers-Newark would add one free throw before halftime to cut its deficit to 35-32.

- Rutgers began to pull away in the third quarter, outscoring the Knights 17-10. The Scarlet Raiders led by as many as seven points when Elisha India Cross hit a three-pointer with 1:23 remaining to go up 49-42. Makowski would answer for the Knights with a three ball of her own to cut the Knights deficit to four points heading into the final quarter.

- Arcadia stormed back with a 10-2 run in the early stages of the fourth quarter. After Makowski started the Knights rally with a free throw, Dunn knocked down her third three-pointer of the contest to bring her squad within two points. The Scarlet Raiders answered with a bucket, but Daveski cut Rutgers lead to one point with a three-point play at the other end. After a couple defensive stands from the Knights defense, Dunn drained another three-pointer to give Arcadia a 55-53 lead. However, the Knights were unable to put the Scarlet Raiders away after Rutgers knotted the game with 1:08 remaining.

- The Knights struggled from the field in overtime, scoring all six of their points from the free throw line. With 49-seconds remaining, Cyr hit two free throws to pull within one point, but the Knights defense couldn't come up with a much-needed stop at the other end.
