ANNVILLE, Pa. --
Camille Menns' double-double of 13 points and 12 rebounds led the Arcadia women's basketball team to a key 52-46 win at Lebanon Valley on Saturday afternoon.
Â
The win improved AU's season record to 10-13 overall and leveled its league ledger at 7-7, keeping the Knights' postseason hopes alive. The Knights' win, coupled with losses by Albright and Stevenson moved the Scarlet & Grey in sole possession of fifth place in the league. The top five teams in the standings advance to the MAC Commonwealth Championships. Lebanon Valley is now 12-11 overall and 8-6 in the MAC Commonwealth.
Â
Menns did much of her damage in the second half, scoring 11 of her 13 points and pulling down nine of her 12 boards in the final 20 minutes as AU overcame an early 13-point deficit.
Julia Makowski added a team-high 14 points, and
Taylor Dunn narrowly missed a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds.
Â
The Knights entered the second quarter trailing 15-10 and that reached 13 points as LVC opened the stanza on an 8-0 run to take a 23-10 lead on an Emily Mealey three pointer with 5:52 left. From there, Arcadia began chipping away at the lead, closing the quarter on a 10-2 run to pull within 25-20 by halftime.
Â
Lebanon Valley's lead grew to nine (29-20) following a Mealey layup early in the third quarter before Arcadia closed out the quarter with another big surge. The Knights pulled to within two points (33-31) on the strength of an 11-4 burst over the final 8:09.
Â
The run continued into the fourth period as Menns and
Sydney Cyr opened the quarter with layups to give AU a 35-33 lead with 8:34 to play. Mealey, who led LVC with 18 points, tied the game at 35-35 on the ensuing possession, and the Dutchmen wrestled the lead back (40-39) on a three pointer with 4:09 left.
Â
The Knights had one more quarter-ending run in them, outscoring LVC 13-6 over the final 3:47 to pull out the win. Makowski began the surge, splitting a pair of free throws to tie the game at 40-40. Menns added a pair of charity tosses with 3:46 left for a 42-40 lead, but the Dutchmen answered right back and tied it at 42-42. Dunn then fed Makowski for a layup, and after Menns corralled a missed layup from Mealey, Makowski fed Dunn for layup that resulted in a three-point play and a 47-42 lead with 1:42 to play.
Â
Menns sealed the win by hitting 5 of 6 free throws down the stretch as AU won for the third time in the last four games.
Â
Arcadia outrebounded the Dutchmen 42-28, forced 18 turnovers and held a commanding edge at the free throw line. The Knights shot 24 free throws, only making 14 attempts, but LVC got to the line just two times all afternoon, and came up empty both times.
Â
Mealey added 13 rebounds for a double-double of her own, and Caroline Scarff added 10 points.
Â
The Knights play host to Widener on Tuesday at 6 p.m. in their final regular season home game of the year.
