Pierfy Leads Knights to 6-4 Victory

AMBLER, Pa. – A Phil Pierfy bases loaded two-run ground rule double in the fifth inning was the difference as the Knights defeated Haverford 6-4 Wednesday afternoon at Skip Wilson Field. Arcadia, who has alternated wins and losses its last five games, improves to 11-6 on the campaign. The Fords fall to 7-8 on the season.

The game remained scoreless until the third inning when the Fords tallied a run on an RBI single by Will Karp, driving in Harrison Burns for the games' first run.

In the home half of the same frame, the Knights pushed across three runs. Nick Ponente reached on an infield error and came in on another infield error to start the scoring for AU. A Dylan Towey sacrifice fly plated Matt Ernst, and a Pierfy single into right center, brought in Sean Carew, giving Arcadia a 3-1 lead.

Haverford responded with three runs in the fifth on three hits, two errors and a walk to go up 4-3.

The Scarlet & Grey leapfrogged back in front for good in the bottom of the fifth inning. After three walks and a fielder's choice loaded the bases, Pierfy rocketed a ball just inside the left field line driving in Towey and Bryan Gillen. A squeeze bunt by Zak Thomas to score Carew insured a 6-4 Knight's victory.

Pierfy led the offensive charge for the Knights with three hits and three RBI. Gillen tallied two hits and two walks out of his usual lead-off spot. Carew also drew two free passes and scored twice.

Owen Margolis earned the win out of the bullpen in relief of Rob Lichtenberger who received the starting nod. Margolis went 3.1 innings, striking out three and only allowing one base runner via a single. Mitch Blake earned his second save of the season to close out the ballgame.

As for the Fords, Lucas Greenbaum was saddled with the loss as he could only record one out in relief of Martin Matsumura. Greenbaum surrendering two runs on three walks, one hit and one wild pitch.

Arcadia begins a three-game series with Albright as it travels to Reading, Pa., on Friday. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
