GLENSIDE, Pa. --
Julia Imbert scored with 32 seconds to play to lift the Arcadia women's lacrosse team to a 10-9 win over Hood on Saturday afternoon at Jean Lenox West Field and Delran Pavilion.
Â
Imbert's fourth goal of the game proved to be the game winner, as she deposited her free position shot in the back of the cage past Hood's Sophia Vilaca with under a minute to play. Following Imbert's goal, the Blazers won possession off the draw control and earned a free position shot with eight seconds to play. However, Rachel Slater's effort was several feet wide of the cage and time ran out on Hood (9-2, 1-1 MAC Commonwealth).
Â
A fast start by the Knights (1-8, 1-1), gave the hosts a 5-2 lead with just under 14:00 to play in the first half. Imbert and
Jess Kaye each scored two goals in the Knights' run to open the contest, and
Michaela Ferlow's goal with 13:49 left made it 5-2.
Â
Following Ferlow's goal, Hood scored four straight to assume a 6-5 lead at the 22:36 mark of the second half. The two teams traded scores over the remainder of the game until back-to-back goals by
Nicole Kress at 4:19 and 3:41 gave AU a 9-8 lead.
Â
Laura Skorobatsch tied the game at 9-9 with 1:40 to play. Kress came up big once again, winning the ensuing draw control and getting the ball to Imbert, who was fouled driving to the cage to set up her game-winning goal.
Â
Veandra Selby made 11 saves in the cage for the Knights, and Vilaca came up with six for the Blazers.
Â
Kaye and Kress finished with two goals and one assist apiece, while Ferlow chipped in a goal and an assist. Kaye also won four draw controls, caused two turnovers and picked up a pair of ground balls.
Kirsten Pedicone caused five turnovers, and
Caroline Toner scooped up six ground balls.
