SELINGSGROVE, Pa. – Another quick start for the Arcadia baseball team led to an 11-6 win on the road Wednesday afternoon at Susquehanna.
The Scarlet & Grey (19-12) scored five runs in the first three innings and pounded out 14 hits in the victory. Phil Pierfy was 3 for 5 with a pair of home runs, five RBI and three runs scored. Sean Carew chipped in three hits as well, including a double, with three runs scored. Nick Ponente and Bryan Gillen each tallied two hits apiece, with Ponente recording three RBI.
In the second inning, a Ponente single to right field scored Anthony Zupito and opened the scoring. Later in the frame, Matt Ernst's sacrifice bunt plated Ponente. To close out the inning, Gillen singled to bring around Mattson and put AU ahead 3-0.
A Dylan Towey sacrifice fly out and a Ponente fielder's choice in the third pushed the Knights' advantage to 5-0.
The River Hawks got on the scoreboard in bottom of the same inning on a RBI single and a two-run double to cut the deficit to 5-3.
Pierfy blasted a three-run home run in the seventh and extended AU's lead to 8-3.
Susquehanna manufactured three runs in the bottom of the seventh on a RBI double, a wild pitch and an infield single to make the score 8-6.
In the top of the ninth, another Pierfy home run, this time of the two-run variety, and a Ponente single secured the Knights' 11-6 win.
Rob Lichtenberger (2-1) picked up the win, allowing three runs on six hits and four walks with four strikeouts in 6.0 innings. Adam Maser and Nick Roda combined to limit SU to three runs on six hits over the final two frames.
Arcadia is at Lebanon Valley on Thursday beginning at 3:30 p.m.
