UNION, N.J. - The Arcadia University baseball team faced its second top-25 opponent in as many games Friday afternoon at 13th-ranked Kean, falling to the Cougars, 9-2. The Knights struck first on a
Dylan Towey RBI single in the second inning, but four-straight innings of at least two runs from the Kean offense in the second, third, fourth, and fifth ultimately downed Arcadia on the road.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-
Ryan Smolen led off the second with a walk after working the count full and stole second to get a runner in scoring position with two away in the inning. Towey followed with a single back through the middle on the first pitch he saw to drive in Smolen and stake the Knights to an early 1-0 lead.
-Kean answered right back in the home half with back-to-back, two-out RBI knocks to take a 2-1 lead after two before adding three in the third and two more each in the fourth and fifth.
-The Knights added a run in the ninth when
Noah Cerrud-Osmer and Eddie Fortescue Jr. drew consecutive walks to start the frame before
Trey Obarowski delivered a base hit to left-center to score Cerrud-Osmer from second.
-
Carson Denham and
Zach Steiger combined to throw four scoreless innings in relief in the effort, allowing two hits and striking our four.
