Men's Basketball Comeback Falls Short at Battle of 309

GLENSIDE, Pa. - The Arcadia University men's basketball team's second-half comeback fell short as they dropped the Battle of 309 to Gwynedd Mercy, 82-73, on Tuesday night.

After digging themselves an early hole, the Knights stormed back into the game with a 36-15 run to open the second half and take their first lead of the contest. However, the Griffins responded with a 21-10 rally to close out the remainder of regulation.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Gwynedd Mercy led by as many as 19 points as they controlled play in the opening half. Justin Money went coast-to-coast with an and-one layup to provide the Knights with some much-needed energy as they pulled within 11 points with 3:08 remaining. However, the Griffins took back momentum with a 9-1 run to end the half as they went into the locker room with a 46-27 advantage.

- Arcadia opened the second half with a 7-0 run to pull within 12 points, 46-34. Jalen Watkins opened the run with back-to-back buckets, while Jared Chambliss forced the Griffins to burn a timeout after a three-pointer.  Moments later, DJ Gardner drained another bucket from long range to shrink its deficit to nine points, 48-39.

- Money drilled a timely three-pointer to pull the Knights within eight points. The Knights then forced a turnover on the defensive end, before Gardner drilled another corner three to shrink their deficit to five points. Samuel Majekodunmi prolonged the Knights' run with a steal and a tough bucket at the other end of the floor. Gabe Keir then drove to the lane for a deuce to pull the Knights within one point, 56-55, with 10:52 left.

- Chambliss tied the game with a corner three-pointer with 9:54 remaining in regulation. However, Gwynedd Mercy quickly answered with a three-pointer to expand its lead to three points, 61-58. Chambliss then got a tough bucket to fall as he was fouled hard on the play. The senior then connected on his free throw to tie the game once more.

- Moments later, Majekodunmi gave the Knights their first lead with a contested bucket, 63-61. However, Gwynedd Mercy responded with a 21-10 run to regain the lead and hold off the Knights comeback.
