CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – The Arcadia University women's basketball team suffered its first loss of the 2021 season Thursday night in a battle of the unbeatens, as the Knights fell on the road to DeSales, 73-40. Taylor Fritz and Julia Makowski led the Knights with ten points and eight rebounds each, marking Makowski's fifth-straight game in double-figures to start the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-The game started out as a back-and-forth battle as the Knights and the Bulldogs traded blows. A Fritz jumper cut the deficit to three, but the Knights quickly fell victim to an 11-5 Desales run to end the opening quarter trailing 20-9.
-The Bulldogs built upon their lead after knocking down a pair of free throws with 4:21 remaining in the third quarter. Arcadia would respond with a spectacular three from Anna Tassar, however it would not be enough to flip the momentum.
-DeSales kept up as the pressure as they opened up the fourth quarter on a 6-0 run. However, the Knights were able to take charge midway through the stanza by going on a 14-8 run of their own, including an acrobatic layup by Olivia Wyckoff to guide the way. In the end, it would not be enough as Arcadia suffered their first loss of the season at the hands of Desales.
