Field Hockey Blanks Wilkes in Conference Opening Win

GLENSIDE, Pa. - The Arcadia University field hockey team shutout Wilkes University, 8-0, in the Knights' MAC Freedom opener on Saturday afternoon at Jean Lenox West Field.  

Junior forward Regan Sammons scored a career-high four goals in the victory. She also tallied an assist for a nine-point afternoon. Four other Knights found the back of the net.

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • Arcadia started out strong recording five shots before the halfway mark of the first quarter. The Knights score their first goal of the day just over seven minutes into the opening frame as Caeley Letersky found the back of the net. With two seconds left in the opening quarter, Sammons scored her first of the day to give the Knights a 2-0 lead after the first quarter. 

  • The Knights kept up the pressure at the start of the second quarter as Morganne Dee scored just 30 seconds into the quarter. Autumn Gahman and Sammons also scored in the frame to give the Knights a 5-0 lead heading into halftime.  

  • Arcadia once again scored an early goal in a quarter as Sammons scored her third of the day a minute and a half into the third. Morgan McEntire scored her first goal of the season to stretch the Knights' lead to 7-0.  

  • Sammons scored her fourth of the day in the final quarter to seal the Knights' 8-0 victory.
