GLENSIDE – The Arcadia University women's basketball team will begin the 2022-23 season under new leadership, looking to take step forward under new head coach
Jackie Hartzell. After finishing 2021-22 with a 7-9 record in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom), Hartzell will look to lead the Knights to the conference tournament in year one.
Hartzell, who came to Glenside after an eight-year tenure at Division II University of the Sciences, led the Devils to the Division II NCAA Tournament five times and producing a .765 winning percentage. Hartzell was named the Hero Sports Division II National Coach of the Year in 2018, the 2019 Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) East Region Coach of the Year, 2017 Philadelphia Coaches Conference Collegiate Coach of the Year, and was a four-time Central Athletic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Coach of the Year.
"The biggest thing for our team is that we get a little bit better each day" Hartzell explained. "Everything is new for everyone right now, so we're just taking it one day at a time and hopefully be ready to go for our first game."
Hartzell is inherting a roster with experience at all three levels, led in the back court by
Scarlett Glasser-Nehls, who leads all returners after averaging 9.0 points-per-game last season, with a 4.4 rebounds-per-game average and 2.6 assists-per-game. Joining Glasser-Nehls with experience are
Maria Tully,
Ally Zolty,
Kylie Meredith,
Jackie Skalski, and
Abbey Finkill.
Looking to make an impact in their first season are
Abby Beam,
Madelynn Card,
Hanna Rhoades,
Maya Lewis, and
Riley O'Hagan.
Mara Weaver, an Honorable Mention All-MAC Freedom selection a year ago, will lead the frontcourt after she averaged 8.0 ppg in 23 games, ranking top-20 in the conference with 32 made three-pointers. Weaver also averaged 5.8 rpg and 1.0 steals-per-game. Returners joining Weaver include
Sophia Rasiul,
Emily Schall,
Quinlyn Fisher, and
Olivia Wyckoff.
Sophia Hathaway,
Morgan Bigler, and
Delaney Bell will be in their first season looking to secure minutes.
The Knights kick off the 2022-23 season on Tuesday when they welcome Neumann University to Alumni Gymnasium for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off. MAC Freedom play begins on November 30
th when FDU-Florham makes the trip to Glenside with tip-off scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
