Nine Early Runs in Game Two Help Softball to Split
 
RALEIGH, N.C. – A five-run second inning and a four-run third helped propel the Arcadia University softball team to a 10-4 game two win over McDaniel College after a 12-0 five inning loss in game one during day two of the Grand Slam Triangle Classic on Saturday.
 
The Knights stand at 2-2 after their first weekend.
 
In game two against McDaniel, Arcadia got on the board in the top of the second when Serena Goodridge led off with a single and moved to second on a single from Morgan Tripodi. After Allison LaRochelle walked to load the bases, Morgan Marchesani singled to bring home Goodridge. Shannon Shea followed with a two-run single that moved Marchesani to second, with Effie Jamanis reaching on an error that reloaded the bases. Madi Costigan brought home Marchesani on a fielder's chouce, and Nathalia Diianni brought Shea in with a fielder's choice as the Knights led 5-0.
 
In the top of the third, Megan Sooy walked to lead off and moved to second on a single from Goodridge. Morgan Tripodi reached on a fielder's choice that forced out Goodridge at second and moved Sooy to third before LaRochelle walked to load the bases. Marchesani followed with a two-run double scoring Sooy and Tripodi followed by a two-run single from Shea scoring LaRochelle and Marchesani with Arcadia leading 9-0.
 
The Green Terror got on the board with a run in the bottom of the third.
 
Jamanis homered in the top of the fifth to increase the Knights lead to 10-1.
 
McDaniel scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth and one in the bottom of the sixth to finish the scoring.
 
Brenna Dolan moved to 2-0 on the season, tossing a complete game while allowing four runs (two earned) on 10 hits with six strikeouts and three walks.
 
Goodridge finished game two 3-for-4 at the plate with one run scored while Tripodi, Marchesani, and Shea all had two hits for Arcadia.
 
In game one against Greensboro, the Pride scored two runs in the first, four in the second, four in the third, and two in the fifth.
 
Juliana Presto fell to 0-2 on the season with the defeat, while Jamanis and Caldwell had the lone hits for Arcadia.
 
The Knights return to action March 11 when they head to sunny Florida, beginning the trop with a 10:30 a.m. non-conference game against Eastern Nazarene.
