No. 8 Rutgers-Newark Defeats Men's Volleyball
NEWARK, N.J. – The Arcadia University men's volleyball team fell in three sets to Rutgers-Newark, the No. 8 team in the latest NVA/AVCA Division III National Poll on Tuesday evening.
The Knights are now 7-13 overall.
In set one, the two teams went point-for-point before Arcadia broke an 8-8 tie with five-point run to get the score to 13-8. The Knights led 17-13 before the Scarlet Raiders tied the score with four consecutive scores. Arcadia held a 24-23 lead, but Rutgers-Newark notched three straight points to take set one 26-24.
The two teams started set two much like set one, with the score remaining even until the Scarlet Raiders took three points in a row, holding an 8-6 lead. The Knights trailed 16-15 before four consecutive points gave Arcadia a 19-16 lead. Trailing 20-19, Rutgers-Newark scored six of the final seven points to take set two and a 2-0 advantage,
The Knights held leads of 3-1 and 5-2 before three straight from the Scarlet Raiders tied the score. With the score even at 12, Rutgers-Newark reeled off four straight to take a 16-12 lead. Arcadia was unable to tie the score as the Scarlet Raiders took the match win with a 25-21 set three victory.
Owen Heft and
Kevin Abraham led the Knights with five kills each.
Ryan Miller added five blocks,
Vaughn McConnell finished with eight assists and Heft contributed five digs.
Arcadia returns to the court next Thursday when it travels to New Jersey City University for a 5:30 p.m. non-conference match.
