Ruger Nets Five to Lift Women's Lacrosse Past Lycoming
WILLIAMSPORT, PA. –
Maddie Ruger led the way with five goals as the Arcadia University women's lacrosse team defeated Lycoming College by a 16-14 final in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) play on Saturday afternoon.
The Knights improved to 2-0 in league play and 5-6 overall.
Ruger began the scoring with an unassisted tally just 32 seconds into the game.
After Lycoming tied the score,
Hannah McAllister gave Arcadia the lead back followed by a goal from
Ashley Starkey assisted by McAllister.
The Warriors scored twice to end the quarter as the two teams were even at three heading into the second quarter.
Olivia Poley and
Skylar Acker (Starkey) helped the Knights regain a 5-3 lead with 12:40 on the clock.
Lycoming evened the count before Ruger gave Arcadia a 6-5 lead. The Warriors ended the half with two straight goals as the Knights faced a 7-6 deficit entering halftime.
The Warriors pushed the deficit to 8-6 with an early third quarter score but Ruger trimmed the deficit back to one with a goal at 13:29.
After Lycoming retook a two-goal lead, Arcadia finished the quarter on a four-goal run, taking an 11-9 lead into the fourth quarter.
The Warriors got the first goal of the final frame, but Ruger, Poley twice, and Acker notched unassisted goals to make the score 15-10 with 8:18 on the clock.
Starkey finished the scoring for the Knights with an assist from Ruger at 6:07 of the fourth.
Emily Griffith stopped 13 shots to earn the victory.
Ruger led the way with six points on five goals and an assist, followed by Acker, Poley, and Starkey with three goals and one assist for four points each, respectively.
Arcadia returns to the field on Wednesday when it will travel to Wilkes University for a 4:00 p.m. MAC Freedom game.
