AMBLER, Pa. – The No. 5/17 Arcadia University baseball team scored five runs in the eighth inning to pull out an 8-6 win over Stockton University in a non-conference game at Skip Wilson Field on Tuesday.
The Knights pushed their winning streak to 12 to improve their record to 22-3.
Zach Steiger got the start for the Knights and earned a no decision as he pitched five innings, giving up only two runs on six hits. Gabe Marshall earned his first career win as he pitched a scoreless eighth inning for the Knights.
Stockton started the game off with one run in the first inning to take an early lead.
Alex Madera led off in the first inning with a single to left field. After Madera was caught stealing second, Hunter Curley and Justin Massielo followed with walks. Curley stole third and then scored due to an errant pickoff move by the pitcher to tie the score at one.
Stockton pulled ahead as they scored another run in the third inning, giving them a 2-1 lead.
The Knights took the lead back in the third inning as Emilio Pallante led off with a single to left field, followed by a Curley two-run home run, giving the Knights a 3-2 lead.
Stockton scored two runs in the sixth inning to take the lead back at 4-3. The Ospreys furthered their lead scoring two runs in the seventh inning making the score 6-3.
The Knights came out swinging in the eighth inning with Curley led off with a single to left field, then advanced to second on a wild pitch. Massielo singled to left field advancing the runner to third, followed by Cheeseman with a sacrifice fly, which scored Curley. Matt Donchez then singled through the right side advancing Massielo to second. Ryan Smolen was walked to load the bases. Matt Sot was then hit by a pitch, bringing home Massielo. Brandon Colon then came up as a pinch hitter and reached on an error by the Stockton shortstop, bringing Smolen and Donchez home to give the Knights a 7-6 lead. Sot then stole home to extend the Arcadia lead to 8-6.
Owen Margolis then entered the game and earned his fourth save of the season to close out the victory for Arcadia.
