GLENSIDE, Pa. - The Arcadia University women's volleyball team defeated Wilkes in five sets on Tuesday night inside Alumni Gymnasium.
The Knights improved to 12-3 overall and 4-0 in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) play.
As a team, the Knights recorded a .344 hitting percentage, their best mark of the season.
Michelle Frank recorded a season-high 24 kills in the match. She also had a season high in hitting percentage with a .488. Danielle Doyle tallied career highs in kills with 14 and hitting percentage with a .619 mark in the victory.
After eclipsing the 1,000 assist mark on Saturday against Drew, junior setter Estefania Martinez-Sola dished out a career-high 51 assists in the win.
ARCADIA 3, WILKES 2
HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1: Wilkes 34, Arcadia 32: The match began in a back-and-forth affair as the teams traded points in the early stages. Wilkes built an 18-14 lead, but Arcadia took a 19-18 lead through a 5-0 run. Each team fended off multiple match points in the late stages of the set, but Wilkes won the final two points to take the opening frame.
Set 2: Arcadia 25, Wilkes 12: Arcadia had a strong bounce back after dropping the opening set, getting out to a 17-7 lead in the second frame. The Knights closed the set on an 8-3 run to tie the match at one set apiece.
Set 3: Arcadia 25, Wilkes 15: The Knights once again had a strong start to a set, getting out to a 16-9 lead. Arcadia maintained its lead through the late stages of the set, and closed on a 4-1 run to take a 2-1 lead in the match.
Set 4: Wilkes 26, Arcadia 24: The fourth set was played much like the opening one as both teams couldn't pull away in the set. Both Arcadia and Wilkes traded multiple-point runs in the middle stages. Arcadia fought off one set point, but Wilkes won the final two points to force the winner take all final set.
Set 5: Arcadia 15, Wilkes 8: Arcadia used a 5-0 run in the middle part of the deciding set to take a 10-3 lead. The Knights closed out the set stay perfect in MAC Freedom play.
