Women's Basketball Downs Wilkes

GLENSIDE - The Arcadia University women's basketball team outscored Wilkes University 42-26 in the second and third quarters to help secure a 71-60 win in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) play inside Alumni Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon. Mara Weaver led all scorers with a season-high 23 points. Kylie Meredith, Maria Tully, and Dayna Balasa also finished in double-figures for scoring.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Wilkes began the game on a 6-0 run before Weaver and Balasa hit a pair of threes to tie the score with 5:04 on the clock.

-The Colonels led 17-12 with 40 seconds left in the first but Arcadia score three consecutive points, finishing the initial period trailing 17-15.

-After Wilkes converted a layup to begin the second, the Knights got three-pointers from Weaver and Balasa to give Arcadia the lead at 21-19 with just under eight minutes showing.

-The Colonels tied the score at 21 on their next possesion, after which the Knights went on a 6-0 run, leading 27-21.

-Arcadia maintained the advantage, heading into the break with a 35-30 lead.

-Wilkes began the second half on a 12-7 run to tie the score at 42 with 5:42 remaining in the third.

-The Knights immediately followed with an 11-0 run capped by threes from Weaver making the lead 53-42 with 3:19 on the clock.

-Arcadia maintained the advantage in the fourth to secure the victory.

-Balasa's 10 points are a new season-high, four away from her career high of 14 against Wilmington University on 2/9/22 while at University of the Sciences.
