CHESTER, Pa. – The Arcadia University men's volleyball team opened Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) play with a three-set sweep over Widener on Wednesday night.
The Knights improved to 10-6 overall on the season.
Andrew Ahn led the Knights with 12 kills.
Danny Gonzalez and Tyrell Turner each chipped in with nine. Turner had a career-best .818 hitting percentage.
ARCADIA 3, WIDENER 0
HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1: Arcadia 25, Widener 16:
Widener held an early 9-8 lead in the set, but Arcadia took four of the next five points, giving it a 12-10 lead. After the teams traded the next three points, The Knights closed on a 13-5 run, closing out the first set and taking a 1-0 lead in the match.
Set 2: Arcadia 25, Widener 17:
A back and forth start to the frame saw Arcadia grab the lead at 9-7. Widener then took the next two points to tie the set at nine, but Arcadia answered with a 6-2 run, taking a 15-11 lead. The Pride took the next point to stop the run, but the Knights began another one, going on an 8-1 run, leading to a 24-13 advantage. Widener fought off four set points, but Arcadia closed out the second set to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
Set 3: Arcadia 25, Widener 23:
The Knights took four of the first five points of the set, but Widener took the next three to tie the frame at four. The teams went back and forth through the middle stages of the set, eventually leading to a 21-all tie. The Knights then closed on a 4-2 run to win the set and the match.
