CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – The Arcadia University women's lacrosse team dropped a MAC Freedom road contest to DeSales, 16-6. The Knights move to 11-2 overall and 2-1 in conference play.
Jaylee Killgore and Ella Longacre each scored twice to lead Arcadia, while Claudia Grello and Avery Ditze added one goal apiece. DeSales held advantages in shots (29-24), shots on goal (26-15), ground balls (19-15), and draw controls (13-11). The Knights converted 1-of-4 free-position attempts.
Mackenzie Clark led Arcadia with three ground balls, two caused turnovers, and two draw controls. Jordyn Chan and Longacre each recorded three draw controls. In goal, Taylor Funcheon made 10 saves.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- DeSales won the opening draw, but Mackenzie Clark quickly caused a turnover. The Bulldogs forced a turnover back on the next sequence and capitalized with the game's first goal.
- Arcadia responded on the ensuing draw, as Ella Longacre gained possession and Avery Ditze finished the play to tie the game, 1-1, with just under 13 minutes remaining in the first quarter.
- DeSales controlled the remainder of the opening quarter, scoring five unanswered goals to take a 6-1 lead.
- The Bulldogs continued their momentum in the second quarter, adding six more goals to extend the lead to 12-1 at halftime.
- Out of the break, DeSales scored once more before Arcadia answered on a man-up opportunity. Clark forced a turnover, collected the ground ball, and found Longacre for an extra-man goal to cut the deficit to 13-2.
- Late in the third, Funcheon made a save to spark the transition. After an initial shot went high, Killgore capitalized on the reset off an assist from Longacre to make it 13-3.
- DeSales added two more goals before the end of the third quarter to take a 15-3 lead.
- In the fourth quarter, Killgore scored her second goal of the game on a free-position attempt during an extra-man opportunity.
- Arcadia won the ensuing draw, and Longacre scored moments later to make it 15-5.
- Following another save by Funcheon, Grello found the back of the net off an assist from Longacre.
- DeSales added a final goal to secure the 16-6 victory.
