GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Arcadia University women's lacrosse team delivered a dominant performance in MAC Freedom play, defeating King's College, 17-3, on Wednesday afternoon at home. The Knights improve to 12-2 overall and 3-1 in conference action.
Arcadia was powered by four goals each from Jaylee Killgore, Meghan Graham, and Ella Longacre. Allyson Reidenbach added two goals, while Claudia Grello, Avery Ditze, and Alejandra Roemer each contributed one.
The Knights controlled the game in all facets, outshooting the Monarchs 35-7, including a 29-5 edge in shots on goal. Arcadia forced 31 turnovers, went 15-for-18 on clears, and held King's to 11-for-31. The Knights also held advantages in ground balls (31-16) and draw controls (17-4).
Graham added five ground balls and a caused turnover to her four-goal performance, while Jordyn Chan led all players with six draw controls and Grello added five. Arcadia converted its lone free-position attempt, while King's did not earn one. Taylor Funcheon started in goal and allowed one goal in the first half, while Angelina Vecchione made two saves and allowed two goals in the second.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Arcadia set the tone early, winning the opening draw control. After a saved shot from Jaylee Killgore, Ella Longacre caused a turnover, leading to Avery Ditze's 34th goal of the season for a 1-0 lead.
- The Knights struck twice in a 20-second span, as Killgore scored off an assist from Longacre before Longacre added her first of the game off a draw control win by Jordyn Chan to make it 3-0.
- While down a player, Allyson Reidenbach forced a turnover, and Longacre capitalized with her second goal off an assist from Killgore.
- Longacre converted a free-position opportunity after drawing a foul in the scoring area, extending the lead to 5-0.
- Following a draw control win by Claudia Grello, she scored off an assist from Chan to make it 6-0.
- Chan won the ensuing draw, and Killgore scored 20 seconds later off an assist from Meghan Graham to push the lead to 7-0.
- Killgore added two more goals before the end of the first quarter, giving Arcadia a 9-0 advantage.
- Graham opened the second quarter with three consecutive goals, two of which were assisted by Longacre and Killgore, extending the lead to 12-0.
- King's got on the board late in the half, but Arcadia took a commanding 12-1 lead into the break.
- In the second half, Alejandra Roemer scored after another draw control win by Chan to make it 13-1.
- Longacre followed with her fourth goal of the game off an assist from Killgore to extend the lead to 14-1.
- King's answered with its second goal, but Reidenbach responded for Arcadia to make it 15-2 heading into the fourth quarter.
- In the final frame, Graham added her fourth goal off an assist from Samantha Gambone, and Reidenbach capped the scoring with her second goal of the game to secure the 17-3 victory.
