Glenside, PA: (Oct. 20, 2010) - Senior
Adrianne Altera (Califon, NJ/Voorhees) scored 2 goals to lead Arcadia to a 3-1 win over Conference rival, Albright. Arcadia Professors from various departments filled the stands on the 1st Annual Faculty Day to watch their students in the classroom succeed on the field. Faculty day is a great way to involve Professors and make them feel part of the campus outside of the classroom. Plus the students can show them why they are called student athletes. And the Knights made sure not to dissapoint. The win is huge within the Commonwealth standings as it enables Arcadia to jump ahead of Albright into fifth place giving them a good chance at earning that final playoff position.
The scoring began when Senior Ashley McCarthy (Norristown, PA/Norristown Area) worked a textbook give and go with Altera to get the Knights on the board. The goal came off a nice corner entry from First Year Hannah Christensen (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin). With less than 5 minutes in the half, Sophomore Marilyn Beatty (Chalfont, PA/North Penn) scored the 2nd goal for the Knights & her tenth goal on the season to give Arcadia a 2 goal cushion entering the half.
It seemed as if the Knights left there game in the locker room at the start of the second half. Lady Lion, Caitlin Feldman, shot Albright onto the scoreboard within the second minute of the half with a goal from the top left of the circle. Shortly after Arcadia coach, Erin Livingston, called a timeout and instilled the fire back the team's play. The Knights were back to being the aggressor as Altera capped off her big day with her second goal of the game and tenth of the season at the 50 minute mark of the game. Knight keeper Sara Baumgardner (Hatboro, PA/Upper Moreland) finished with 1 save and the win, putting her at 3-3 on the season.
Arcadia returns to the field this Saturday October 23rd when they travel to Gratham, PA to face not only conference but also national power Messiah College for a Commonwealth Conference match-up. Game time is scheduled for 1 PM.
