Glassboro, N.J., Tuesday, March 29, 2011-- Arcadia University Baseball traveled to Rowan University this afternoon, the Knights stayed close throughout as the game remained scoreless through the first three-and-a-half innings of play, however, the Knights were only able to muster two hits in the game and fell 1-0.
Solid pitching on both sides made things tough at the plate, as the two teams combined for only five hits in the entire ball game. Junior Marc Gottfried got the starting nod for the Knights, he went three innings, allowing only one hit and struck out two. Classmate Adam Planamento took over in the top of the fourth to try and keep the Knights close. It was in the fourth inning Rowan was able to manufacture the only run of the day, using one hit and a few timely outs to push a run across, and go ahead 1-0.
As the old adage goes, it takes at least one to win, however it turned out the Rowan run in the fourth was the one run needed as the itching staff kept Arcadia off the board all nine innings.
Arcadia returns to field this Friday when they welcome Commonwealth Conference opponent Elizabethtown to Erny field for the opener of the three game weekend series between the teams. The first pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
