GLENSIDE, Pa., Saturday, April 23. 2011-- Arcadia Women's Lacrosse defeated the visiting Penn State Abington Nittany Lions 14-1 in today's non-conference game at the New Field, reaching the seven-win mark for the first time since the 1999 season. Arcadia now evens their 2011 record at 7-7 while looking to improve upon their 4-6 mark within the Middle Atlantic Conference standings in order to secure a post-season berth in next week's 2011 MAC Championship Tournament.
On Saturday, the Knights made some quick moves despite the steady rainful over the Glenside area. Senior Kreena Patel, who finished with three goals and one assists put the Knights on the board right off the draw, ten seconds into the game and scored another of the team's next three tallies as Arcadia jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first openign three minutes. Patel finished with four points as did junior Stephanie Holguin would scored the natural hat trick on goals six, seven and eight for the Knights who took an 8-0 lead midway through the first half.
Senior defender Kelly Donahue added her second of the season to build upon a 12-0 halftime lead for Arcadia, scoring the first goal of the second half before the Nittany Lions were able to puch one across the board at the 22:57 mark. With the continued rain falling from the skies, the officiating crew haulted the game with 12 minutes to play and the Knight's win was in the books.
Junior Amalie Kreitman earned the win in goal to lead the Knights. Senior Kaitlyn Gamber had a monsterous day, collecting team highs in ground balls (6) and caused turnovers (6) and finished with her first goal of the 2011 campaign and three points on the day. The team honored their six graduating seniors: Kristen Chasse, Jen Ng, Kreena Patel, Kelly Donahue, Kaitlyn Gamber and Kelsey Unger. The Knights will return to action this week with a pair of must-win Middle Atlantic Conference games at Widener on Tuesday and at Eastern on Saturday.
