Baseball Returns From Spring Break

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 | Box Score 4 GLENSIDE, Pa.:  Arcadia University Baseball returned from their Spring Break trip to Myrtle Beach after going 2-3 in five non-conference games at The Cal Ripken Experience.  The team improves to 4-8 overall with Commonwealth Conference play on the immediate horizon with their first three-game series beginning this Friday against Alvernia University. 

The Knights two wins came from complete game shutout performances from senior Adam Planamento and junior Jordan Hofferman

Hofferman shut down Penn State Harrisburg in a one-hitter through five innings earning his first win in Scarlet & Grey on March 9, a game the Knights offense scored 11 runs.  The 11-0 win came off the heels of a 4-7 loss to the Nittany Lions in the first game of the twin-bill. 

On March 12, Planamento fashioned a two-hitter against Ulster Community College, picking up his second win of the season, throwing 4 strikouts through 6 frames.

The Knights lost 3-5 on March 10 to Morris County College and 7-13 to Dean College on March 13.   Arcadia also played a JV-exhibition contest against Lackawanna College on March 14, losing 3-4 which will not reflect in the team's overall record or statistics.

Junior Brandon Martin led Arcadia's offense down South with 6 hits and 4 runs scored.  Sophomore Jay Zehring added 5 hits, including a pair of doubles, batted in 5 and scored once.  Sophomore Justin Simpson connected on 5 hits, scored 5 runs and batted in 1 while going 4 for 4 on stolen bases.  Junior Jerry Smith, started at catcher all five games, hit for 5, including a double and a triple,drove in 2 and scored 3.

Overall, the Knights out-hit their opponents 33-25 and went a perfect 9 for 9 on stolen base attempts.

The team travels to Reading, Pa. tomorrow for their opening single game of their three-game series with the Crusaders, a 3:30 p.m. start.  The Knights host Alvernia at home on Saturday, March 17 for the doubleheader beginning at 12 Noon at Erny Field.
