Arcadia Women's Lacrosse Runs Away from Immaculata in the Second Half

IMMACULATA, PA (April 19, 2012) -  With the score locked at 5-5 at the half, Arcadia University out-scored host Immaculata University 8-4 over the second stanza and tallied their third straight victory by beating the Mighty Macs 13-9 in today's non-league women's lacrosse match.  With today's victory, the team evens their overall record at 7-7 and matches their win total from a season ago.

Jenna Crothers '14 led the Knights this afternoon with 7 pts. on 3 goals and 4 assists.  Leading scorer Haylee Molloy '15 netted 4 goals while Katie Bauer '14 scored twice and dished out 2 assists.  De Thompson '13 provided another solid outing in the net, making 11 stops and notching 4 caused turnovers.

The two squads played a smothering defensive style that yielded 8 yellow cards by game's end, 4 to Immaculata and 3 to the Knights. Molloy scored on Arcadia's first man-up opportunity in the first four minutes. 35 seconds later Bauer followed, ripping a free-position shot past Mighty Mac keeper Brit Worthington before feeding Crothers at 23:50 all to give Arcadia an early 3-0 lead. Over the next 15 minutes the Mighty Macs found the back of Arcadia's net three times and were able to knot the score up at 3 aside.

Arcadia then went back up by two on another drive from Molloy then Crothers paid back Bauer with a nice feed and a goal.  It remained a 5-3 Knights advatage until the hosts netted two in the final two minutes for an even five aside on the board at haftime.

IU would out-shoot the Knights 29-22 on the game and with the suffocating defense from both teams continuing in the second stanza, head coach Erin Livingston noted today's outcome was decided on the Knight's ability to win the 50-50 ball battles. "We were a little flat in the
first half," said Livingston.  "Second half we sprinted hard and definitely came out with a little more intensity.  Mindy Hair '15 played well and scored two goals for us, one to put us up one in the first minute of the second and another to give us our three-goal lead back. Jenna did a nice job feeding our scorers, De came up with some big saves and Bauer was scoring and playing aggressive and smart defense."

IU did manage to clim back to within a goal (9-8) with 14 minutes to play but Crothers tacked on a free-position score then assisted to Jaclyn Kell '15 (2 goals) and Molloy for a 13-8 Knight's spread.  The hosts capped the game's scoring to make the final 13-9.

Thomson improves to 5-3 overall for the Knights. 7 of her 11 stops this afternoon came in the second half. Worthington finished with 8 stops for the Mighty Macs who drop to 3-12 overall.

Arcadia travels to Kean University this Saturday, April 21 for a game out-of-conference.
