Caligiuri scores 25 as Women's Basketball Uses Second Half Run to Defeat Stevenson

Box Score Glenside, PA (January 19, 2013) - Sam Caligiuri scored 10 of her game high 25 points during a game changing 15-4 second half by the Arcadia University Knights (9-8, 2-8 MCOM), leading them to a 64-48 win over the Stevenson University Mustangs (5-9, 2-8). The win snaps the Knights three-game losing streak. Arcadia was trailing 36-35 before making the run midway through the second half.

The two teams played a close and low scoring first half with five ties (at 2, 5, 8, 10 and 15). The score was tied at 15 at the 9:33 mark, but Arcadia then went on an 11-2 run that gave them a 26-17 lead with 1:58 to play in the half. Stevenson scored the final six points of the half and Arcadia led 26-23 at halftime.

Sam Caligiuri scored nine points to lead Arcadia. Stephanie Martinez scored 11 points to lead Stevenson. Both teams shot below 30% in the first half. The Mustangs had the rebounding advantage 24-21, but committed 12 turnovers while forcing 10.

Arcadia started the second half by scoring six straight to take a 32-23 lead at 14:59. Stevenson then scored nine straight to tie the game 32 with 13:10 to play. The Knights then trailed 36-35, but went on a 15-4 run that was sparked by 10 points from Caligiuri to take a 52-40 lead at the 5:36 mark. Stevenson could only get as close as 10 the rest of the way and the final margin was the Knights largest lead of the game.

Caligiuri was 8-18 from the field, including 8-9 from the line. Victoria Mazzeo grabbed 16 rebounds for Arcadia, while Dominque Hassinger scored 11 points. Morgan Wensley and Addy Crenny each added 10 points. Arcadia shot 33% from the field for the game and held Stevenson to 25%. The Knights won the board battle 50-39.

Arcadia returns to action on Wednesday night when they travel to face Albright for a 6pm tip-off.
