Khalief Trawick broke a 46-46 tie with 12:22 to play and the Arcadia University Knights (15-10, 10-8 MCOM) would never look back in a 79-73 win over the Widener University Pride (6-19, 5-13). The win propels the Knights into the MAC Commonwealth playoffs for the first time ever and puts the Knights in the postseason for the first time since the 2005-06 season. Trawick, who also eclipsed the 1,000-point mark in the contest scored a game-high 24 points.
The Knights won the tip and scored the first four points, but a 10-2 run by the Pride gave them a 10-6 lead at the 15:31 mark. Arcadia then went on the attack, using a 22-2 run to take a 28-12 lead with 6:52 to play in the first half. The Knights continued to hold the double-digit lead and with 2:18 to play in the first half, Trawick went to the line and hit a pair of free throws to go over the 1,000-point mark for his career. Those free throws put the Knights up 37-22. Widener got to within nine at 38-29, but Arcadia went into the break with a 40-29 lead.
Trawick scored 13 points to lead all scorers. Dillon Fields scored 10 points to lead Widener. The Knights shot over 48% from the field and the Pride shot 36%. Arcadia controlled the boards 20-16 and forced eight turnovers, while committing just four.
Widener opened up the second half on a 10-2 run, cutting the Arcadia lead to three points at 42-39 with 15:57 to play in the second half. The Knights scored four straight to go back up by seven, but the Pride then scored seven straight to tie the game at 46 at the 13:13 mark. Arcadia responded with eight straight points to take a 54-46 lead with 10:15 to play in the second half.
Widener again got to within three at 54-51, but a 9-2 run by Arcadia put them back up by 10, 63-53 at the 5:29 mark. The Pride only get as close as five for the rest of the way and the Knights won by the six points margin.
Trawick was 8-12 from the field and 7-9 from the line. He also had four rebounds, two assists and two steals. Travis Saltus scored 13 points, while
John Landro had 11 points and
Colin McCarthy had 10 points. Fields scored 16 points to lead Widener. Both teams shot over 42% from the field and the Knights held a 39-37 lead on the boards.
