Big games by Saltus and Candelaria lead men’s basketball over Immaculata, 84-69

GLENSIDE, Pa.- Senior guards Torrell Candelaria and Travis Saltus both recorded 20-point efforts to lead the Arcadia University men's basketball team to an 84-69 victory over Immaculata University on Saturday afternoon. The Knights improved to 5-4 with the win, while the Mighty Macs fell to 3-4 with the loss.

Arcadia opened the game on an 11-3 run, and never relinquished the lead. Its largest lead of the game came with 3:08 remaining in the first half when Saltus hit a layup to give the Knights a 16-point advantage, 39-23. Immaculata opened the second half on a 17-7 run to cut the score to 48-47, but Arcadia outscored the Mighty Macs 36-22 the rest of the way to close out the win.

Saltus had a season and game-high 24 points, including going 13 of 15 from the free-throw line, along with three rebounds. Candelaria added 20 points, shooting 80 percent (8-10) from the field and 75 percent (3-4) from three-point range. Senior forward Joe Brown contributed 12 points with eight rebounds and three assists.

Immaculata was led by senior forward Mamadou Diakite's 21 points and eight rebounds. Sophomore guard/forward Roy Ferrell, Jr. added 12 points and four rebounds, while freshman forward Joshua Smith contributed 10 points and five rebounds off the bench.

The Knights had a 22-13 advantage on points off turnovers. They also shot 52 percent (28-54) from the field and 73 percent (24-33) from the free-throw line. The Mighty Mac's shot 44 percent (27-61) from the field, 23 percent (5-22) from three-point range, and 53 percent (10-19) from the free-throw line.

The Knights return to action Tuesday night when they host Rosemont College for a non-conference game starting at 8 p.m.
