David Behler (Lehighton, Pa.) allowed just one run on four hits with a career-high 12 strikeouts to lead the Arcadia University baseball team to a 4-1 non-conference win over visiting Eastern University Wednesday afternoon at Erny Field.
The Knights (5-20-1) scored the only two runs they would need in the bottom of the third as junior
Andonis Yiantsos (Voorhees, N.J.) lined a double down the right field line to scored junior
Tom Wagner (Somerdale, N.J.) and senior
Justin Simpson (Centerville, Pa.). Sophomore
Michael Nessel (Stuart, Fla.) scored on a wild pitch in the fourth and crossed the plate again on freshman
Jordan Draude's (Lancaster, Pa.) sac-fly in the eighth.
Behler lost his shutout bid in the top of the eighth as sophomore Andrew Check (Doylestown, Pa.) led off the inning with a double to left center and then scored on senior Tyler Orr's (Langhorne, Pa.) double to center, cutting Arcadia's lead to 3-1. Behler then registered three straight outs to end the inning. Sophomore Cory Tsvedos (Nanticoke, Pa.) then struck out two of the three batters he faced in the ninth to pick up his first save of the year.
Yiantsos finished 2-for-3 in the game with a double and two RBI, while Nessel finished the day 2-for-3 with a triple and two runs scored.
Orr had the only multi-hit game of the day for Eastern (5-21), going 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Sophomore Jordan Miller (Dillsburg, Pa.) took the loss on the hill after allowing three runs on five hits and two walks in 3.1 innings.
Arcadia will return to action Thursday when it hosts a 3:30 p.m. Commonwealth Conference contest against Lebanon Valley College at Erny Field to open a three-game set with the Dutchmen.
