Dunn Drops 17 in Arcadia Debut, Knights Take on Gwynedd Mercy in Battle of 309

GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – The Arcadia University women's basketball team opened the 2017-18 season Wednesday night, falling 54-47 to Gwynedd Mercy. The game was the third annual Battle of 309.
 
FOR THE RECORD:
  • Arcadia is 0-1
  • The Griffins opens the year 1-0
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Neither team led by more than two over the first 10 minutes, with the hosts leading 14-13 after one. Arcadia spread the wealth with six different scorers in the frame.
  • The Scarlet and Grey stormed back from an early second quarter deficit, ending the stanza on a 13-4 run to take a 26-23 lead to the half. Sophomore Taylor Dunn netted six points in the span.
  • After the hosts regained the lead to start the second half, Arcadia ended the third quarter and started the fourth on a 9-3 run to tie the game at 42 with 5:31 to go.
  • Dunn gave Arcadia a one-point lead on two separate occasions down the stretch, with a three with 3:54 to and a layup with 2:48 on the clock.
  • Gwynedd Mercy scored the last eight points.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • The Knights made 16 field goals on the night, including four threes, while going 11-15 from the charity stripe
  • Dunn led all scorers with 17 points highlighted by a 3-6 effort from behind the arc; she was joined in double-figured by sophomore Courtney Hoffman with 10 points.
  • The Scarlet and Grey controlled the boards, outrebounding the opposition 50-34, including 20-12 on the offensive glass
  • Freshman Taylor Fritz and junior Camille Menns hauled in 10 rebounds each
  • Three different players scored 11 points for Gwynedd Mercy, who went 20-61 from the field a 5-25 from beyond the arc.

  • Arcadia opens its home schedule Friday night when it hosts Penn College at 7 p.m.
