GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Arcadia University men's basketball team fell to Widener 83-72 Tuesday night at Alumni Gymnasium to wrap up the home portion of its schedule. The Knights fell to 9-15 on the season and 4-11 in conference play, while the Pride improved to 15-9 overall and 9-6 in the MAC Commonwealth.
HOW IT HAPPENED: After what proved to be to an even first half of play with each team shooting exactly 50% from the field, the visitors took a 36-35 lead to the break. The Pride opened the second half on a 24-12 run over the first 10 minutes of the frame to open a 60-47 lead at the midway point, before opening a lead of as many as 16 on two separate occasions. Emmanuel Anderson-Marrow converted a three with 1:13 to go to open a six-point spurt for the Knights, with sophomore capping it with a layup, however it would bring them within nine.
ARCADIA LEADERS: Sophomore
Brandon Thompson led the Knights with 15 points on 5-9 shooting, while being joined in double-figures by classmates
Phil Pierfy (13), Scott (11) and
Evan Slone (10). Slone matched a game-high with eight rebounds.
WIDENER LEADERS: Sam Smith led all scorers with 24 points, while being accompanied in double-figures by Kendall Green (19), John Fender (11), Ryan McMahon (10) and Saradayah Sambo (10). Sambo and Fender matched the game-high with eight rebounds.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS: The Knights shot 45% (27-60) on the night, including 5-18 from beyond the arc, with going 13-20 at the charity stripe. The Pride went 24-51 (47.1%) from the floor, including 11-20 from distance, while going 24-33 at the free throw line.
