Kohawks Hold Off Knights in 2OT, 77-72

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- Twice Taylor Dunn hit a late, game-tying three-pointer, but the Arcadia women's basketball team fell 77-72 to Coe in double overtime at the Cruzin Classic on Thursday afternoon.

Dunn, who finished with 20 points on the day, hit a game-tying three with 28 seconds left in regulation, and added a game-tying triple with 10 seconds left in the first overtime. The Knights now stand at 5-6 on the season, while Coe moves to 6-3 overall.

Julia Makowski (19), Camille Menns (11) and Taylor Fritz (10) also scored in double figures for Arcadia, while Sydney Cyr added 10 rebounds and four assists, and Asya Alba chipped in eight points, six assists and five steals. Menns contributed nine boards and three steals, while Dunn pulled down seven rebounds.

Trailing by six (44-38) entering the fourth quarter, the Knights quickly pulled within a point at 44-43 as Makowski opened the stanza with a triple, and Courtney Hoffman followed with a layup in transition. Five quick points from the Kohawks, including a three from Madeline Wilkins, restored Coe's six-point advantage (49-43) with 6:45 left in regulation.

The Knights used a 10-4 run, including six points from Makowski, to pull even at 53-53 with 2:25 left in regulation. The Kohawks hit on 3 of 4 free throws in the final 1:49 to take a 56-53 lead before Cyr fed Dunn for the first of her game-tying three pointers that knotted the contest at 56-56 with 28 seconds to play. Sydney Schroder missed a potential game-winning three for Coe at the final horn.

In the first overtime, Dunn gave AU a 58-56 lead with 2:45 to play, but Wilkins answered with one of her six treys in the game to stake Coe to a 59-58 lead just 20 seconds later. The lead changed hands twice more, and two free throws from Schroder with 16 seconds to play put Coe up three, 63-60. Out of a timeout, Dunn knocked down a triple with 10 seconds to play that tied the game at 63-63, and she then preserved the tie and forced a second overtime period when she blocked Destiny Smith's potential game-winning layup with three seconds to play.

Coe scored the first six points in double overtime and never led by fewer than three in the final five minutes.

Arcadia held Coe to 39.1 percent (25-64) shooting and forced 23 turnovers from the Kohawks. Coe was 20 of 26 (.769) from the charity stripe and outrebounded Arcadia 49-44. The Knights got to the line 22 times, but hit on just 12 attempts (.545).

Jackie Feldt led Coe with 29 points and nine rebounds. Wilkins finished with 23 points, including a 6 for 13 showing from long range, and added eight rebounds. Schroder chipped in nine points, seven assists and five rebounds.
