Menns' Double-Double Helps Women's Basketball Past Alvernia, 62-52

READING, Pa. – Junior Camille Menns posted 12 points and 14 rebounds in the Arcadia women's basketball team's efforts to take down conference foe Alvernia, 62-52. Four Knights in total scored double digits in the victory Saturday afternoon.
 
FOR THE RECORD:
  • Arcadia moves to 9-14 on the year and 4-10 in MAC Commonwealth play.
  • Alvernia dips to 4-19 overall, with a conference mark of 0-14.
COACH SAYS:
  • "Today was a great team effort to get a conference win on the road," said head women's basketball coach Rose Katz-Gobeli. "We had some people step up and play some great all-around games. We also handled their run and stayed together as a team to come out with the win. I'm proud of our resilience and how we prepared for the game today." 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Knights stormed out to a 16-7 run over the first 8:02 of the first frame, having four players contribute a point. Menns led the way with six, while freshman Taylor Fritz and sophomore Jamie Manzo dropped four each. The Knight collectively shot 6-of-11 (55%) in the first quarter as they took a 16-9 lead into the second.
  • The second stanza was back and forth for most of the frame before the Scarlet and Grey spent the last 1:06 of the quarter on a 7-2 run, including a last second shot by sophomore Renee Hersperger to cap the first half up, 34-22. Sophomore Taylor Dunn added the other five points on the run.
  • The third period was similar to the second, with the Golden Wolves pushing for a comeback. Arcadia took a few small runs throughout the quarter to keep its lead safe at 47-42 entering the final frame.
  • In the final stanza, the Knights doubled their lead in the first 3:38, taking a 5-0 run to claim a 10-point lead. Dunn scored all five points for the Scarlet and Grey. Alvernia tried to battle back, but the Knights buckled down over the final 4:41 to claim to victory. Dunn and Manzo had four points apiece in the span, with Fritz adding the final two.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
  • Joining Menns in double figures was Dunn, who led all scorers with 22 points, Manzo (13 points) and Fritz (10 points).
  • As a team, the Knights shot 37.5% from the floor and 80% from the charity stripe.
  • Arcadia controlled the glass, outrebounding Alvernia, 42-31, including 17-7 on the offensive side. This led to 18 second chance points for the Scarlet and Grey.
  • Also contributing significant boards were Dunn (8) and Manzo (7). 
GAME NOTES:
  • With the victory, the Knights have swept the season series against the Golden Wolves.

  • Arcadia travels to Widener for a Tuesday night MAC Commonwealth battle. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
