Pierfy Goes Yard Twice as Baseball Bests Messiah, 8-7

FOR THE RECORD:
  • The Knights improved to 11-5 on the year, with a 4-1 conference mark.
  • The Falcons own a 4-9 record and are 1-5 in conference play.
QUOTE OF THE GAME:
  • "Today was a huge win for us to regain our momentum as we head into a busy stretch of our schedule," Pierfy said. "We stuck together through adversity and most importantly we got back to having fun on the field."
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Pierfy went to work early, as he sent a solo home run over the fence in center field with two out in the top of the first inning.
  • Carew broke a 1-1 tie in the top of the third, as he singled to right field bringing in both Pierfy and senior Nick Cardace.
  • Two runs in the top of the fifth inning helped the Knights tie the game at five. Pierfy scored on a wild pitch with two outs, before Carew came in when sophomore Dylan Towey reached on an error on the second baseman.
  • A two-out, two-run home run in the top of the sixth inning from Pierfy put Arcadia for good, as it put the team up 7-6.
  • Freshman Brett Moyer plated the final run on a single through the right side to score Carew in the top of the seventh.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Pierfy went 3-4 on the day with a pair of home runs, three RBI and four runs scored.
  • Carew had a 4-5 outing with a double, two RBI and two runs scored.
  • Moyer had a pair of hits and an RBI.
  • The Knights plated their eight runs on 13 hits.
ON THE HILL:
  • Senior Mike Boulanger (3-0) picked up the win in relief, allowing one run on four hits with four strikeouts in three innings of work. Senior Ryan Ulrich picked up his first save of the year allowing one hit in two scoreless innings with a pair of strikeouts. Sophomore Andrew Scholz got the start, allowing six runs in four innings.
  • Quinton Kuntz (1-3) took the loss for Messiah, allowing three runs on four hits in two innings of work. Luke Luckenbaugh got the start, allowing three runs on five hits in three innings.
NOTES:
  • Junior Bryan Gillen has reached base safely in all 16 games this season, including his current five-game hitting streak.
  • The game marked Carew's sixth multi-RBI game and Pierfy's fifth.
UP NEXT:
  • The Scarlet and Grey are slated to host Penn State Abington Saturday afternoon at Skip Wilson Field. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
